The Organic Experience LLC

I founded The Organic Experience in January of 2007 in order to educate people about how to achieve and maintain lifelong wellness. This company is about so much more than fitness, it encompasses all of the elements that play an important role in our health and vitality including: Physical, Emotional, Mental, Spiritual, Nutritional and Lifestyle. The goal of The Organic Experience is to find harmony in all of these parts of our lives. I believe in healing the person as a whole, not treating disease or fighting fat. When you are truly healthy all of your symptoms, diseases and unwanted body weight will fall by the wayside, leaving nothing but radiant health!

How do I know this? I have experienced a powerful transformation as a result of learning how to balance all of these elements in my own life. In my early 20s I suffered from major depression, anxiety, adult acne, pre-diabetes and debilitating PMS--all of which are now non-existent because of the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, nutritional and lifestyle changes that I have made. The most compelling change for me was learning how to eat according to my metabolic type.

The science of metabolic typing, developed by William Wolcott, the author of “The Metabolic Typing Diet,” involves finding out where each one of us falls on the spectrum between the Atkins Diet (high-protein and fat, low carb) and vegetarianism (little or no animal products and high-carb).

Wolcott’s program is largely based on the research of Dr. Weston A. Price. In his book “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration”, Dr. Price documents his travels in the early 1930s to remote parts of the globe where he studied the diet and lifestyle habits of indigenous peoples who were still living off the land as their ancestors had for thousands of years. What he found was that there was much variation in the ratios of protein, carbohydrates, and fats among tribes in various parts of the world. Tribes in colder climates subsisted on mostly protein and fat, and tribes in warmer climates consumed much more carbohydrates. What kept people in warmer climates, like Sub-Sahara Africa, healthy was vastly different than what kept the Eskimo in a much colder climate healthy. But what was consistent in all of the tribes’ diets was that they all ate a totally organic, unprocessed diet -- and all the tribes that followed their ancestral diet were free of degenerative diseases and dental problems. I repeat, disease and dental cavities did not exist for these people until they were exposed to modern foods of commerce including refined carbohydrate and sugar, vegetable oil and other processed food.

So, in order to eat right, all we have to do is find out our ethnic background and eat what our ancestors did, right? Not exactly. Today, very few of us are of pure ethnic heritage, and even if we are we don’t necessarily live in the climate that our ancestors did. Also, we are exposed to all kinds of environmental, electromagnetic and chemical stress that our ancestors never experienced. Wolcott has taken all of these factors into account and devised a method for determining the metabolic type that you are functioning with right now.

Unfortunately, the American Heart Association and other “experts” believe that a high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet is the universal diet for everyone. This is the way I ate and I was sick and fat! Sound familiar? In fact the dietary recommendations on their website would leave many people sick and overweight. When I learned that I was a strong protein type I started eating heavier meats and less carbohydrates, and as a result my depression and anxiety disappeared, my body reshaped and I had bounding energy that lasted all day. When I learned the importance of eating organic food, eliminating foods that I was allergic to, drinking the right water and cooking for myself, my acne disappeared and my skin was glowing.

What I have learned from my own experience, and the experiences of my clients, is that whatever your unwanted symptoms are, eating organic food for YOUR metabolic type will always help your condition, in accordance with other sound lifestyle practices. Or, as my teacher, Paul Chek, says, the last four doctors you will ever need are Dr. Diet, Dr. Quiet, Dr. Movement and Dr. Happiness. That’s it folks.

Now, are you ready to watch the weight you have struggled with melt away while your energy soars? Are you ready to need less, or possibly none, of the medications you've been taking because you have healed yourself from the inside out naturally? Are you ready to experience life as a healthy, fit person? To automate healthy habits that allow you to forget about your body so you can focus on other endeavors? This is what The Organic Experience is all about. This is not a diet. It's an experience in optimal health. I believe that it is possible to reverse or lessen the severity of EVERY disease when one is ready to heal.

I continue to be awed by the powerful simplicity of this work. The key is just to get back to living as closely as our ancestors did 10,000 years ago (or even 100 years ago in tribal societies who were free of disease): what we ate, how we slept, the type of communities we functioned best in, our relationship with nature, the absence of toxins and poisons in our environment, following normal stress patterns and making time to spend with family and friends.

I understand that the stress of modern life cannot be completely avoided. I live in New York City, and I contend with my fair share of holistic health aberations on a daily basis: the air I breathe, the noise, the plastic water bottles, the fact that my street is lit up like Yankee Stadium all night long, and others I don’t even want to think about because for the moment they are out of my control. But still, I love calling New York my home, and I have learned to live holistically on a middle income in one of the most stressful and expensive cities in the world, and you can too. It is my goal to teach people not only in New York City, but in every city and town all over the world how to live this way realistically and why it is essential to do so for longevity and vitality.
